Spirit Totems--Art as Metaphor
Through twenty years of tooling design Shawn has collected interesting and beautiful discard, to assemble these lively pieces, in creating a new story on their behalf. According to Joseph Campbell; mythology is the stories having to do with our inner mysteries and inner thresholds of passage. They give us guidelines in understanding the signs along the way. In this spirit Shawn has noticed that each found piece has a vibrant energy and speaks in its form. It creates enjoyment to combine these stories; thereby creating a rebirth, a transformation into a new mythos. Channeling love energy and contemplating this mythic language of expression, in the process, fuels the creation through him. One can see the natural transformation of the elements in this work; joining to tell a story celebrating the rapture of being alive!

About the Artist
He started welding building industrial feed mills; traveling the country. In the building of complex machinery and supporting concentric structures , he was always attracted to the line and flow of the beautifully mangled discard. Up cycling these pieces seemed only natural. The process of recognizing beauty in the worlds discard and cultivating it; creates world healing.
